Classes at Summit Grappling Academy

We run over 30 classes a week, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and Nogi), Judo, Kids Kickboxing and more.

Students are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the schedule class start time, to ensure that they have time to get changed and be on the mats for the class beginning.

New Students should message us to sign up for their trial, and make themselves known to the Coach when they arrive for their first class. The Coach will explain how each class is structured.

Students should sign in on the computer at reception, and collect their attendance card from the relevant class box (one for each age group – clearly marked).

Each class follows a standard format so students know what to expect. Over the course of our curriculum we teach our Students 100’s of techniques, supported by Coaches and training partners.

Classes can be physically tiring, but mentally rewarding. We help you to achieve your goals.

With classes suitable for any age, gender, or physical capability, Students will learn how to defend themselves, but they will also experience the other benefits of physical activity and the sociable aspects of the academy - helping to improve mental focus, levels of self-confidence & self-discipline, as well as overall fitness and wellbeing.  Grappling sports offer the opportunity to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Lose weight
  • Become stronger, mentally and physically
  • Become more flexible
  • Increase stamina

We pride ourselves on being a family friendly academy at Summit Grappling. Get healthy, have fun and learn a new skill.

ADULTS JIU-JITSU

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes teach self-defence techniques, takedowns, control and floor based Grappling attacks and defences.

Our Adult classes are suitable for anyone aged 16+, at almost any level of physical ability.

Each session begins with a group warm up and then several techniques are taught with the Coaches demonstrating, talking through the detail and then Students working through each technique with their partner(s). Students are always partnered with someone appropriate, based on height, weight and ability – and the Coaches provide individual feedback and support to Students in the classes.

Benefits of these classes aren’t just limited to learning a new skill or self-defence. Students also experience improved strength, flexibility, stamina and co-ordination, as well as the well-being benefits of a social class that challenges your focus and application of techniques.

ADULTS NOGI

Nogi classes look at the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling – without wearing the Gi (traditional jacket and trousers with belt).

These techniques are applied without grabbing your opponents clothing. Students typically wear a rash guard and shorts for these classes.

These classes tend to be faster paced than our traditional Gi based classes, focussing on takedowns control positions and submissions or defences that do not involve using the collar, lapel or sleeves of the Gi uniform.

Students can expect to improve their control in these classes, improved hand eye co-ordination and focus on the technical aspects of pinning and controlling their partner.

MINI GRAPPLERS

Our Mini Grapplers classes are suitable for children aged 3-5.

Our classes for this age group are either 30 or 45 minutes, and are tailored to introduce children to the principles of self-defence and Grappling, in a fun and social way with games and techniques.

Our Kids classes can help to teach your child self-discipline, resilience and perseverance - skills which are useful both personally and academically. Our programme is designed to:

  • Improve your child’s motor skills by increasing their eye, hand, and foot coordination
  • Help your child understand the importance of respect, the more we show, the more we receive
  • Show your child how to focus and concentrate
  • Teach your child the self-defence skills to defend themselves if absolutely necessary
  • Help your child to be an individual but at the same time part of a larger team

We pride ourselves on providing a safe environment for this, and our focus is always on the wellbeing of our students. Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport, so students can expect to learn how to takedown, control and submit their partners – but this is done in a controlled and monitored way.

LITTLE GRAPPLERS

Our Little Grapplers classes are suitable for children aged 6-9.

These one hour classes are tailored to introduce children to the principles of self-defence and Grappling, in a fun and social way with games and techniques. They then build on the effective application of these techniques.

We run our classes in a welcoming and fun environment, where students learn focus and respect, as well as how to work together as a team, looking after each other and supporting each other to continue learning. They will also improve their co-ordination, control and fitness.
