Our Classes

You will never forget your first class at Gracie Barra!

We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before schedule, as the class will start on time. When lining up to begin practice, you’ll notice the instructor has a precise plan for the class. This is standard. The class routine is always similar so you know exactly what to expect during each part of practice; the techniques change, though!

You will learn over 100 technique combinations over four months so be ready for the journey! You’ll also find strong support from your peers. By the end of class you’ll be physically tired but mentally exhilarated. Don’t get too exhausted, though–we hope to see you back the next day! Remember, you can train as much as you want.

ADULTS GB¹ PROGRAM

Top performing fighters and individuals follow a common set of principles that sustain their success. The practice of Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu allows individuals to understand these principles through an exciting process that combines instruction, observation, practice, appropriate feedback, live training and competition.

Students experience results that go beyond gains in strength, flexibility, fitness or self-defence skills. By remaining truthful to the lessons learned in practice and applying them off the mats, Gracie Barra students experience an overall improvement on their focus, energy and general well-being.

The GB¹ Program teaches these basic principles of effective fighting to individuals like you. Its structure condenses an immense diversity of Jiu-Jitsu into core fundamental moves combined intelligently and safely to optimize your learning.

Benefits of joining:

  • Learn the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu
  • Increase focus, energy and concentration
  • Enjoy significant gains in your overall fitness level
  • Learn the GB Self-Defence System
  • Become part of the GB Family
  • Increase self-confidence
  • Train at over 900 different locations Worldwide

ADULTS GB² / GB³ PROGRAM

The Gracie Barra Program Structure defines three main stages of development for students: the GB¹ Program – Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals, the GB² Program – Advanced Jiu-Jitsu, and the GB³ Program – Expert Jiu-Jitsu. These stages indicate different maturity levels and students upgrade from one to the other in their own natural progression.

While the GB¹ Program focuses on the building blocks and basic principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the GB² Program is built on high-level techniques and drills that start shaping the students game flow through the development of reflexes, speed and reaction time as well as transitions between one technique and another.

After a few months in the GB² Program students typically experience a deeper involvement in GB’s philosophy, a stronger bond with training partners as well as more discipline and commitment to healthy habits that keep them in good shape.

GB² Program classes are based on a defined class structure and curriculum that take a broad and open-minded approach, incorporating techniques from different grappling styles like wrestling, judo, sambo, and, of course, Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu.

ADULTS NOGI PROGRAM

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu typically involves wearing a rash guard, spats and shorts.

Unlike Gi-based Jiu-Jitsu, opponents are not allowed to grab their opponent's clothing. No-Gi is fast paced and requires you to make quick decisions

There are fewer grips in No-Gi. A Gi has a thick collar, lapel, sleeves and pant legs you can grip to help control your opponent. Training in No-Gi forces students to improve the technical aspects of pinning and submissions because they can’t rely on the Gi grips and friction to work for them. Instead, they must use their body positioning to help immobilise their opponents when trying to submit them. There are fewer stranglehold opportunities in No-Gi.

TINY CHAMPIONS

Tiny Champs classes are our introduction to Jiu-Jitsu for students aged 3-5.  We currently run these sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 1700-1730 and Saturdays 1000-1045.

To excel in any endeavour, individuals need to have a strong set of values and a solid character that gives them perseverance to achieve his or her goals. The Gracie Barra Kids Program was created to provide children ages 3-15 with an environment that allows them to experience and understand core values like focus, discipline, persistence, cooperation and respect.

As a contact sport, Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu provides a very challenging yet safe and caring environment for a child to mature towards a real life champion. The outcome of continued childhood practice of GB Jiu-Jitsu goes far beyond the accomplishments on the mats. The discipline and excellence demanded by our instructors often carries over to the child’s behaviour at home and at school.

GB Wear

GB Wear

Our mission is to express Master Carlos Gracie Jr's vision and the Gracie Barra culture into uniforms and apparel that empower and inspire thousands of team members across the world, fortifying the loyalty and pride among our GB community!

'Each person who puts on the Kimono and believes in Jiu-Jitsu that myself and my family teaches is the realisation of my life's work' - Grand Master Carlos Gracie Sr. (Founder of BJJ and Master Carlos Gracie Jr's father)

The Jiu-Jitsu Gi (uniform) is the formal Japanese name for the traditional uniform used in Jiu-Jitsu practice and competition. It is derived from traditional Japanese clothing. Most likely, the Gracie family developed the original Jiu-Jitsu gi from the traditional kimono and other Japanese garments around the early 1900s. The Jiu-Jitsu/Judo gi was the first modern martial arts training uniform. Over the years, the length of the pants and sleeves grew longer, and changes were made in the material and fit. The traditional unbleached cotton is now bleached white, although blue is available. Other martial arts, notably judo and karate, adopted the style of training uniform used in Jiu-Jitsu.

When you decide to join us you will require the correct kit in order to train.  Shown in the pictures to the right is what we wear for Gi and Nogi classes.
